ShareInvestor WebPro Review and Coupon Code – Poor man’s Bloomberg?

6

Market data is a big thing these days. Just ask the London Stock Exchange, which offered to buy Thomson Reuter’s data provider Refinitiv for $27 billion just a few weeks ago.

There are 2 main market data providers out there today: Bloomberg, and Refinitiv.

If you’re a trader or banker working in an institutional setting, you pretty much have to use Bloomberg, there no choice about it. Data aside, most market players will only recognise Bloomberg screenshots, and if you’re a trader the chat function in Bloomberg is just impossible to give up.

But these 2 platforms cater mainly to institutional investors. A Bloomberg terminal goes for $2000 a month, so as retail investors, we’re just not going to be able to buy one to leave it lying around at home.

Basics: What is ShareInvestor WebPro

ShareInvestor WebPro is:

An essential investment tool for all investors and traders

A full suite of fundamental data and technical charts is readily available for your investment analysis. Be the first to be updated with the latest financial news and information. With ShareInvestor WebPro, you will be able to make good investment decisions with confidence.

I’m going to break that down for you. ShareInvestor WebPro is a poor man’s version of Bloomberg. You get probably half the functions of Bloomberg, but at a much, much, much lower price point.

Pricing

Let’s not beat around the bush. Features wise, there is no way this product competes with Bloomberg or Refinitiv. It’s just not even a contest.

Pricing on the other hand, is a completely different matter. While a typical Bloomberg Terminal goes for $2000 a month, ShareInvestor WebPro goes for an absolute fraction of that, which is why we’re even looking at this.

The basic pricing for ShareInvestor WebPro is set out below. Market Data Fee (real time stock prices) really isn’t needed unless you’re a trader (and even then you can get them from your broker if you trade actively), so I wouldn’t recommend getting it.

Financial Horse Coupon Code / Promo Code

On top of that, there is a Financial Horse Coupon Code / Promo Code that will give you a $10 rebate!

The coupon code / promo code is SGFH10D

Signup link is here.

Final Pricing

After using the coupon code, it drops to about S$222 for 1 year subscription, which works out to about S$18.50 a month.

That’s actually really reasonable.

Compared to a full fledged Bloomberg Terminal, ShareInvestor WebPro comes in at a fraction of the cost.

Features List – What can ShareInvestor WebPro do?

The full features list is set out on their website, and it’s a pretty long list, so do take a look if you’re keen.

Most of the features are pretty self-explanatory, so I’m not going to go through a full walkthrough, I’ll just highlight the main features that I like.

And the most helpful part, is the section on fundamental analysis. Now I’m a long term investor, so I mainly look at fundamental analysis. You know, stuff like P/E ratios, dividend payout ratios, EV/EBIDTA, things that no one looks at in the world of Ubers and WeWorks.

And without a platform like ShareInvestor WebPro, there’s 2 main ways of getting such information: (1) Yahoo Finance, and (2) the Company’s website. All the information is public, so I’ll be able to get them anyway, but the main difference is how long it takes me to get the information. And with many of them, getting them via ShareInvestor is much more convenient.

Fundamental analysis

ShareInvestor WebPro gives you the up to date financial ratios for just about every metric you could want.

I’ve extracted some charts below to give you a rough idea, but long story short, there’s a ton of financial ratios here, way more than what you’ll get on Yahoo Finance.

Ones that I really like are:

  • The standard stuff like the P/E ratios, EV/EBITDA, NAV, NTA,
  • The financial ratios like current ratios easily available on hand
  • Dividend analysis (payout ratios, historical yields etc) for multiple years without having to dig

It also gives you the past 10 years’ worth of financial ratios. This cannot be understated, because Yahoo Finance only gives you the financial ratios as at the current date, which is pretty annoying because there’s no historical comparison.

This also comes in very handy when evaluating REITs, because it allows you to geenrate charts that show how the REIT’s price has traded against it’s book value historically. And that’s something you just couldn’t get from Yahoo Finance, which is one of my main gripes against Yahoo Finance.

Unfortunately, the most granular you can break this down is by years, so you can’t generate a day to day / month to month chart like with Bloomberg. But again, it really all goes back to the pricing here.

Insider Sales

Insider sales is another big one. Insider sales are all announced on SGX, so it’s actually possible to go through all the company announcements individually to figure out what insiders are doing.

But that’s incredibly tedious, and realistically nobody is going to do that.

With ShareInvestor WebPro, all the insider trades are nicely categorised for you, so it hugely reduces the amount of time spent on such research.

Top Shareholders

This one might just be me, but when I invest in a company, one of the first things I check is the ownership. There’s a big difference between a Temasek 40% owned company and a Temasek 10% owned company.

Again, all such information is available on the annual reports, but being able to just click a tab to access them, and with nice pretty charts to boot, is something that I really like.

Quarterly Results and Annual Reports

You can also download all the quarterly results and annual reports from ShareInvestor WebPro directly, without needing to go to the company website.

Would I sign up for ShareInvestor WebPro?

I have to admit, I was actually pretty sceptical about ShareInvestor WebPro when I first heard about it. The website design looks like it came from another era, so it’s very easy to dismiss it as another outdated product.

But after having spent some time in the platform itself, I have to say that I actually really like it.

You need to get your expectations straight that this is not a Bloomberg Terminal or Refinitiv. Those things go for $2000 a month, and offer institutional level information to satisfy pretty much any need you want.

ShareInvestor WebPro after the coupon code goes for S$16.25 a month for a yearly subscription. That’s just a world of a difference.

Just take me for example. Realistically speaking, there is no way I would sign up for a Bloomberg Terminal. That’s just silly.

So the choices that I have are to (1) go with the free option and rely on Yahoo Finance and the company websites, or (2) go with ShareInvestor WebPro at S$16.25 a month.

And ShareInvestor WebPro really does make life a lot easier when conducting fundamental research. It provides a ton of additional information and financial ratios, that wouldn’t otherwise be easily obtainable, at a pretty low price.

So would I sign up for an account? I actually really like it. But I don’t have to decide just yet, because my trial account is still active. What I’ll do is that I’ll use ShareInvestor WebPro for the next few articles I write, and you guys can help to judge if it does indeed improve the quality of analysis.

But again, that’s just me. Objectively, I really do like ShareInvestor WebPro. I think it’s great value for money, and offers a ton of information and convenience, at a very low price point. Heck if you’re using a normal broker for Singapore shares the minimum commissions are $25, so viewed this way the S$16.25 a month for a subscription is a steal.

Of course, don’t forget that at the end of the day, ShareInvestor WebPro is just a tool. It provides you market data and information, and how you interpret that data to make money, is wholly up to you. Remember that saying about how a bad workman blames his tools?

Well, ShareInvestor WebPro is definitely a big upgrade from the free options like Yahoo Finance, and should be good enough for almost any retail investor. If you get one and are still losing money, that’s probably not something that would change even if you had a Bloomberg Terminal. 😉

So don’t forget that at the end of the day, it’s all about you, and how you use the data. If you’re completely new to investing, you’re probably fine with Yahoo Finance for a while until you learn the ropes. But if you’re an intermediate to advanced investor who needs more data for your research and analysis, I actually think ShareInvestor WebPro could be a very good choice. In fact, it might be the only choice, because there’s just no real competitor at this price point.

Coupon Code / Promo Code

If you’re keen to sign up, don’t forget to use the Coupon Code / Promo Code, it’s SGFH10D on checkout for a $10 rebate. I don’t think this works on renewals though, so if you’re an existing user you may need a new subscription to enjoy this promo. Signup link is here.

    • The broker tend to provide far more basic market data, they wouldn’t have the extensive historical data and financial ratios that ShareInvestor WebPro would have. So it not really a good comparison. ShareInvestor probably should be compared with something like Yahoo Finance or Bloomberg.

    • Bloomberg or Refinitiv? Haha but at a lower price point – none that I am aware of, don’t follow UK closely unfortunately. 🙂
