Feeling anxious or worried about the direction in your life?

Unsure where you’re headed, both in your personal life and career?

You may be experiencing a quarter-life crisis.

Fear not, this is a common experience by many young adults, and here are some ways to overcome it.

This article was written by a Financial Horse Contributor.

1. Take a deep breath

The first thing to do when experiencing signs of crisis is to pause.

Pause, and take a deep breath.

Take a step back to acknowledge your feelings.

It’s OK to feel anxious or worried about your future.

This is part and parcel of human life and adulthood.

Know that what you are experiencing is normal, and you can overcome it.

2. Finding yourself

Instead of seeing this negatively, think of this as an opportunity.

This is an opportunity to rediscover yourself.

A lot of times, a quarter life crisis occurs because what you are doing currently no longer matches what you desire for your future.

So a quarter life crisis is an opportunity to correct this mismatch.

And the first thing to do, is to re-discover you wants and desires.

3. Be kind to yourself

On this journey to find yourself, be kind to yourself.

Don’t just try to bottle up your feelings or innermost worries, unpack them carefully and face your fears.

If you feel stuck in your career, think of how can you shift your trajectory.

It’s ok to start small.

Make small changes towards what makes you feel energized, alive and motivated.

It’s never too late to make a change.

This is one reason why being financially secure is so important, as it enables you to have the luxury of choice.

4. Set a road map towards a new future

As you start to better understand yourself, start planning for your future.

Set a road map towards a new future for yourself.

Create a vision board with things that make you feel inspired.

Take a sabbatical from work, or go on a solo vacation.

Discover what motivates you, and do more of it.

5. Be open to possibilities

While you rethink your future, be open to possibilities.

This is an opportunity to embrace change.

There are no mistakes to be made, only lessons to be learnt.

Be brave and try new things, and figure out what you like or don’t like.

Embrace life to the fullest.

Before you know it, you’ll be out of this mental rut, and forging a bright future ahead!
